Xbox 360 to Support 1080p Resolution
September 20th 2006 12:28
This spring Microsoft will release their "fall" update for the Xbox 360, and a raft of improvements, adjustments, and changes will be made available to those with an Xbox Live account.
Whilst many of the new features are still under wraps, MS today announced at the Tokyo Game Show that the 360 will be upgraded to display resolutions of up to 1080p, on top of the 1080i which is the current maximum.
In an official statement, Microsoft said that their "fall software update, scheduled for release later this year, will allow all Xbox 360 consoles around the world to output game and movie content in 1080p resolution."
This is good news for those of us with 1080p capable TV sets, but it remains to be seen how many games will support the resolution, and just when the "progressive" revolution will take place, if ever, during the 360's life cycle. I mean the thing's already a year old. The "720" can't be too far off!
