Sony Shares Drop
October 4th 2006 07:53
Sony's shares dropped 2.75 per cent this morning after some extremely worrying media coverage. Apparently, PS3 units were constantly overheating and crashing during the Tokyo Game Show last week. Analysts have been jumping on board and slamming Sony, and it appears this has made a significant difference on the stock price today.
Whilst Sony reps were quick to assure onlookers at the show that the problems were caused by the units being enclosed in kiosks, and that with sufficient ventilation in users' homes there would be no problem, the exact same thing was happening with early Xbox 360 units last year. You'll probably remember that despite Microsoft's assurances that the units wouldn't have overheating issues on launch, they did. Big time. The problems were caused by faulty manufacturing of specific parts used for ventilation.
Worrying indeed for Sony fans.
