Sony Shares Drop

October 4th 2006 07:53
Sony's shares dropped 2.75 per cent this morning after some extremely worrying media coverage. Apparently, PS3 units were constantly overheating and crashing during the Tokyo Game Show last week. Analysts have been jumping on board and slamming Sony, and it appears this has made a significant difference on the stock price today.

Whilst Sony reps were quick to assure onlookers at the show that the problems were caused by the units being enclosed in kiosks, and that with sufficient ventilation in users' homes there would be no problem, the exact same thing was happening with early Xbox 360 units last year. You'll probably remember that despite Microsoft's assurances that the units wouldn't have overheating issues on launch, they did. Big time. The problems were caused by faulty manufacturing of specific parts used for ventilation.

Worrying indeed for Sony fans.

Well it was meant to be, looks like the ps3 really has a tough time ahead for itself. If not impossible.

but blu-ray player is still tempting..

True Ahmed. Might be a bit of a wait and see proposition.

I'm tryng to decide myself at the moment whether to go with Blu Ray or HD-DVD.

Id go with neither if I were you, but blu-ray is the more advanced tech so Im leaning towards that

I thought that these were "console wars", and had nothing to do with DVD format. I think nintendos doing the right thing by not sticking to either of them. If you want HD tv or BLU-RAY buy them individually.

ps. Sonys actually going to bundle the PS3 with a BLU-RAY DVD of taladega (i think) nights, is this a gaming console or a DVD player?
