PS3 Delayed in Europe and Australia
September 7th 2006 02:35
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe yesterday officially announced that the Playstation 3 console will be delayed in PAL territories, until March 2007. That means that European, Russion, Middle Eastern, African, and Australian gamers will have to wait four months longer than their Japanese and US counterparts.
Sony stated in an official media release that "the revision of the launch date in the SCEE territories is caused by the delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, thus affecting the timely procurement of key components to be utilised in Playstation 3."
Make no mistake, this is huge news. It means that the Nintendo Wii, still due for release in November, will get a significant jump on Sony in the PAL region. Of even greater consequence, when the PS3 releases, Microsoft's Xbox 360 will have had almost a year and a half head start, and there'll be a certain game waiting to welcome Sony's new machine into the fray. Halo 3.
