WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 Review

November 11th 2008 00:12

Yes, there is another wrestling game, much less another SmackDown VS Raw game... But since it's been released and since we're all playing it, I'm writing a review for those who haven't played it yet.

SmackDown vs. Raw seems great, and in a way it's a little impressive with over 60 wrestlers and 14 different one-on-one matches, but when you get down to actually wrestling- punching, grappling, and slamming, it's not the most impressive.

Don't get me wrong SVR 09 is fun, but there's not much improvement from last years game. The basic controls are still there, but they've added a few minor touches like "Signature Move" when you set off a stored special and the ability to enter the ring via steel steps.

Otherwise, the game is reversal heavy, but it does sotre Finishers, break up pins in tag matches, and it'll give you some run for your money.

You have sliders to adjust the game's thinking if you're not 100% happy with the AI. Basically, adjust how effective the Finishers are, how much the computer reverses, and modify momentum rates. You can customize the sliders.

Using the game's Roster Editor, you can actually mold the WWE as you want by changing what brand people are on, giving and taking championships, and deciding who's clean or dirty. This is actually a pretty cool feature of the game, if you ask me.

You will also find alternate attires for some characters such as CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho, and a few others.

There are 19 arenas that you can play in, not to mention that you can unlock the WCW brand and classic championship. You'll also find that you have a few gimmick matches such as the Inferno Match, Falls Count Anywhere Match, Parking Lot Brawl, KO-only match, and a few others.

There is also emphasis on the tag team scene. I won't give you many details, but let's say that there is something a little different about it. You'll just have to check it out and see for yourself.

The biggest change that you will notice is with the Superstar/Diva's Fighting Abilities. With SVR 09, the broad styles have been replaced with specific abilities. Every character has 6 fighting abilities that will give them special advantages in the ring, which makes them unique and varied. For example, Santino has the Dirty Pin ability so that he can use the ropes for leverage when going for the three count, whereas Big Show has the Hammer Throw ability which allows him to hurl his opponent over the top rope with a strong Irish whip.

Other than that, SVR 09 has Road to WrestleMania, which is probably one of the best storylines that you'll come across in a wrestling game. You get to choose to play as one of seven playable Superstars and take to the grappler into his original storyline. Chris Jericho, Triple H, the Undertaker, CM Punk, John Cena, and Rey Mysterio/Batistia all have angles that are unique to their own thanks to original voiceovers, branching storylines, cutscenes, and more. Each show starts with fireworks and an announcer's summary of what's going on and then ends with the WWE copywrite logo and the usual dramatic scene that you'd expect from a WWE program. Jericho has to figure out who the masked man that keeps attacking him is, Triple H has to choose between DX and Evolution, and Cena needs to figure out how to contend with MVP's new world order. And although this mode is only open to 7 characters, you'll find that once you get started, you'll be having loads of fun unlocking entrances, characters, and creating superstar pieces.

If you decide that you're not a fan of the Road to WrestleMania mode, you can always fall back on the Career mode. Unfortunately, though, the Career Mode is just the barebones. No matter who you choose, you'll start out with a pitiful rating and you'll have to choose a championship path- Cruiserweight, World Heavyweight, WWE, WWE Tag Team, World Tag Team, Intercontinental, Women's, United States, Hardcore, and ECW championships. When you get the required stars, challenge the number one, and unlock the next match, you can go face the chapmion, win the title, and then choose another career path.

There is more to the Career Mode, but you'll have to play it to find out all of the details that surround the mode.

Another new addtion to SmackDown vs Raw is the Create A Finisher, which allows you to create a finisher that is all yourse. There are supposidely over 500 moves that you can choose from, but as you begin to choose the options you become more and more limited as to what you can really do.

But, in all seriousness WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 is for the most part the same game that we see every year. There are a few upgrades, but it's really just a remake of last year's game.

But, you will never know if you will like the game or not until you try it. You can purchase SmackDown vs Raw 09 in the following consoles if you think that you can handle it...

Nintendo DS
Nintendo Wii
PSP
PlayStation 2
PlayStation 3
Xbox 360

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa Review

November 9th 2008 18:41

The first Madagascar was probably one of the better animated films of the year, but with the second film, it's not as great, if you ask me, but anyway, we're all here about the Madagascar Escape 2 Africa video game, not the movie. Although, if you are looking for a purely entertaining family friendly movie, Madagascar Escape 2 Africa is definitely it.

As for the video game, this is a likable and action packed romp through Africa with fun and larger than life characters that you can't help but love.

Throughout the game, you'll encounter diverse and interesting gameplay that will offer enough fun and contentment to keep you busy for a while. Although, if you are looking for serious action and thrilling scenes, Madagascar Escape 2 Africa probably isn't going to be your game of choice.

This video game is a happy go lucky game that is crammed with fun gameplay for even your youngest gamers.

You get to hope through canyons hunting monkeys, drive jeeps, play musical chairs, roll up garbage, and chase down runaway cubs, which all in a hour long segment of a middle level in the video game. You never know what all you will encounter thoughout the full game, but you will have hours of fun packed into one disk.

Just remember if you get bored or in a rut, you can always just swit to a different level for a break.

The one feature that you can't help but to enjoy is that the video game is designed to look just like the movie. But, unfortunately, the video game doesn't feature the same voice overs as the movie. The stand-in voices do the trick, but the it's just not he same, since your characters are spot on doubles from the movie.

Although, the video game is aged for 10 and up, you'll find that there are a few innuendos, gambling, and mild cartoony violence, that not all parents will want their 6 year old playing around with, but for the most part (as for the innuendos at least) the average child will miss them.

There are loads of mini games and even a four player tournament that the whole family can get involved in. So overall this is a pretty good video game that is packed with fun. Just remember if you're a hard core gamer, it may not be the game for you.

You can find Madagascar Escape 2 Africa at low prices, for the following game consoles:

Nintendo DS
Nintendo Wii
PC
PSP
PlayStation 2
PlayStation 3
Xbox 360

Fallout 3 Review

October 29th 2008 12:26
Fallout 3 is probably one of the newest role-playing games that offers full deliverance and a gripping, action packed game. The game paints a picture of the dstopian future where people are on the cusp of the atomic revolution in the 1950s, as seen with a sci-fi view in terms of if several thousand bombs were dropped on it. The game is dark and dreary, but it is filled with dark humor and desperation.

As Vault Dweller, you are a blank slate and write your own story. You'll start the game with your own birth, but quickly move toward childhood and various pivotal events via snapshots. But, since that would be a boring video game, you'll wake up at the end of your childhood with various alarms and mass confusion. You father has opened the vault and left, which has shattered the existence of the other inhabitants of the vault. You have to go in search for him.

As the story unfolds, you will be faced with survival of your own life, and the crumbling of the government's infrastructure. The pressure built can lead good men to do bad things, and bad men to do evil and take advantage of others. You'll need to decide your place in the world, but remember that karma's a bitch and the choices you make will have its consequences.

The conversations that you will have with various characters will range from disturbing to hilarious, which makes things interesting, and you'll get to hear everything that anyone has to say, but in this case you'll have to play the game at least twice in order to do that.

The overall story line of Fallout 3 is fantastic, coming together with all the pivotal points in a story, with lying, stealing, fighting, and more.

You'll find that there is a good deal of flexibility with the game, and each of the different routes can lead to hours of fun.

In addition to the main storyline, you'll have mini quests that can be useful to building your character and killing time.

Unlike Oblivion, you can't perform repetitive actions like swimming or jumping, and expect to advance your level. You'll need to combat and complete quests. It will be in your experience and skills that you will succeed.

Every time that you advance in levels, you will be able to choose a perk, which are always going to either give you a new skill or show you a location that you haven't visited yet. One perk that you may be interested in is Cannibalism, which allows you to feed on humans after you kill them, but remember bad karma...

Although, your skills and advancements is important, there isn't that much emphasis on leveling up, with a cap of 20 levels. Although, you won't be close to maxing out your skills or grabbing all of the perks, but it will encourage you to play again.

It is thought that maybe the cap will be released when downloadable content is released for Fallout 3.

Once you've beaten the game and completed all of the side quests, you'll still have a lot to do, so make sure to run through the game again so that you cover more ground and finish getitng all of the perks.

Just make sure that you see everything, which can take at least 100 hours of exploring. I mean, you'll get more XP points for every ruin that you find, as it will tell you a story of a former inhabitant. You'll be able to find cool weapons, but make sure to kill all the enemies before they get you.

As for the weapons, you'll find various states of disrepair and only have limited ammo, which is a tease, but you will find really cool weapons.

Overall, Fallout 3 is an engaging and fantastic video game that you'll love if you like role-playing video games. You'll find a few flaws and bugs, but for the most part, the flaws are easily fixed with reloading the game, so it's not that serious of a deal. You'll find wonderful and realistic graphics and animation, and the color contrasts are pretty basic with browns and grays dominating the screen.

IGN RATING
9.5 Presentation - The atmosphere and style are everything you could ask for and more. A few bugs and camera issues keep things from perfection.
9.0 Graphics - The landscapes are wonderful. The character models and animations could be a lot better.
9.5 Sound - Excellent voice acting and a soundtrack that completely fits the game's mood. The sound effects aren't bad either.
10 Gameplay - A rare combination of excellent combat and deep role-playing.
9.5 Lasting Appeal - A more focused experience than much of what Bethesda has created in the past that begs to be played for hours and hours. This is one game you won't soon forget.
9.6 - Incredible OVERALL

You can purchase Fallout 3 for three different console versions:
PC
PlayStation 3
Xbox 360

The Mortal Kombat team is a fierce one, so you'll want to watch out with Mortal Kombat and the DC Universe team meat up. You'll have 10 DC Universe kombatants and 10 Mortal Kombat kombatants, Your DC Universe men will include some of your favorite heroes and villains, whereas the women are greatly outnumbered. With just two from each side, the women kombatants should still be feared. But, remember that the game is a true two player game, so grab your friend and watch the two worlds collide when Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe is released in November.

But, anyway, Midway's new Mortal Kombat installment should not disappoint, especially as it has already built up hype around the gaming forums. You'll find that come November, they're going to sell out fast, so make sure to get your Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe video game first. Pre-Order so that you can be the first to play as Sub Zero or Baraka, or one of the many other Mortal Kombat kombatants. Anyway, check out the men Mortal Kombat kombatants below.

Sub-Zero

He's as cold as ice, willing to sacrifice...your head! That's right, the frozen warrior returns again for this new installment in the series, the baddest ninja to EVER walk the planet.(I'm a bit of a Sub-Zero fanboy, can't ya tell?) As the leader of the lin-kuie ninja clan...He will be coming back this year to kick butt and take names, freeze fools and play games. Better watch your head, cuz he'll take that too!

Scorpion

The outcast from the lin kuei clan, the fallen warrior, the demon from the nether realm. Scorpion has been called alot of things, but a punk isn't one of them. One of the most hardcore fighters and the best ever.(besides sub zero of course!) Scorpion will be bringing his trusty spear and fire breath to a console near you soon.

Shang Tsung

Watch your back...and your souls! The wicked wizard of the...realms? I dunno, either way Tsung is once again playable, thank god he's not the old beat up dude from the original eh? Anyways, the second in command is here to steal souls and be an all around evil jackass, morphing into other kombatants and throwing fireballs at you, nothing special.

Jax

Sonya Blades male counterpart returns in MK vs DC for another go around, personally i think the creators of mortal kombat brought him around to have some type of minority figure in the game but what do i know? Either way, Jax is here, again with his metal arms, as if he's not buff enough already...

Liu Kang

The original Mortal Kombat champion is back...from the dead that is! After dying in the last mortal kombat series opener liu kang is back from the dead and bicycle kicking his way into your house this november. He will probably haave the same four boring moves as he's always had, but you'll still play as him. Why? Because you will.

Raiden

A.K.A. The God Of Thunder
The god of thunder is back ready to shove a lightning bolt up your ass, brokeback mountain style! Raiden basically oversees the entire wellbeing of earthrealm, who knows what he'll be doing in this game besides shooting electricity out of his fingers and directly up your ass. I'm sure he'll be flying and grabbing and teleporting and all that good shit. Yea.

Kano

The leader of the black dragon criminal enterprise, mortal enemy of sonya and jax, kano is the coolest earth realm warrior ever. First appearing in the original Mortal Kombat, Kano will quickly perform open heart surgery on your ass if he doesn't incinerate you with the infrared laser in his eye.

Baraka

An unpredictable warrior, Baraka belongs to a race of nomadic mutants. He will slice and dice you using his various moves, blades, and shards. You'll quickly lose your head if you don't watch out because Baraka's famous for decapitation and swift blade movement.

Midway is releasing probably the most talked about and potentially the most sought after Mortal Kombat installment next month, and believe you me, it's going to be one of the best. With 10 characters from DC Universe and 10 characters from Mortal Kombat, you'll be in for a ride.

With two worlds colliding in November, it's only natural that you want to know who your kombatants are. Well with 4 female kombatants and 16 male kombatants, you'll have a good time choosing your kombatant. Now, I want to introduce your 8 male DC universe kombatants. For the 8 male Mortal Kombat kombatants, you'll want to check out THIS LINK.

Heroes

Batman

The alter-ego to the wealthy Bruce Wayne, you don't want to mess with him. Batman has a series of bat-themed gizmos and weapons that he can pull for the war against crime, and don't think that you can hide from him either, as he can just as easy find the crime-doers with his gadgets.

Superman

AKA The Man of Steel
With Superman's super strength, x-ray vision, and his faster than lighting speed, you won't get away from him. Just remember that Superman's biggest weakness is that of kryptonite, so avoid it with all costs, and use his super hearing, invulnerability to magic, and super freezing breath to your advantage.

The Flash

As his name suggests, Flash is quite speedy. You won't be able to get away from him, once he's got his eys on you. Just be careful not to get him stuck in a Speed Force and don't get on his bad side, as Flash can make objects explode with shear vibrations with kinetic energy.

Shazam!

It's not just a name, Shazam really gives you reasons to stay away. With his wisdom of Solomon, strength of Hercules', stamina of Atlas, power of Zeus, courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury, you'll want to make sure that you don't mess with this superhero.

Green Lantern

His green appearance should be enough to steer clear of him, but the Green Lantern is not one to mess with. He gets his powers from his ring, so if you can, steal it, otherwise, you'll find that he can easily harness the energy in his ring to convert the energy into solid objects (typically weapons), pick up other people, or even create force fields.

Villains

Joker

Ok, now this is one scary dude. The Joker has a series of exploding gadgets and tricks up his sleeve, and if you catch him in a bad light, he'll be after you. Although, his skills with unarmed combat can vary, you'll definitely want to avoid his razor sharp flags and harpoon guns. And, don't even try to use poisons on him because he's immune to nearly all of them.

Deathstroke

AKA Slade or Terminator
Deathstroke is probably not the most common super villain or anti-hero, but he has the enhanced abilities of strength, speed, agility, stamina, and reflexes, which means you want to stay away from this big fella'. Deathstroke is on of Batman's kombatants, so try to match it fairly since he's great at both hand to hand kombat as well as weaponry.

Lex Luther

Superman's arch-enemy doesn't have a flair for powers, but Lex Luther is one super villain that you don't want to mess with. He's got a nasty temper, money, and the super villain lab to concoct some nasty remedies for you. So, make sure that you don't get on his bad side.

Midway has been one of the most popular video game makers for over 20 years. Most of their success comes from the Mortal Kombat franchise in which 2 players compete against one another in a bloody fight to the death. They were the first to introduce the ability to actually kill your opponent at the end of a match, known as a "fatality" and many other video game makers followed suit but Midway will always be known as an innovater in the video game world. In November 2008 Midway plans to release their newest installment in the Mortal Kombat series, and once again they've brought new innovation to the game with Mortal Kombat Vs. D.C. Universe. This is looking to be the biggest and baddest Mortal Kombat game to date. It occurred to me that some people out there might not know who the Kombatants are or anything about them so i decided to write this to give you a little insight on the characters, in this article i will introduce the female characters from both the Mortal Kombat world and the D.C. world.

To be released in October, you may be interested in purchasing Guiater Hero 4 World Tour. Well, you may want to know what songs are going to be initially released with the game so that you can figureo ut if the game is worth it becuase I know that many people were slightly disappointed with the other Guitar Hero games because the songs weren't quite what they wanted.

Because Guitar Hero World Tour is going to have all the instruments, the game is a little less rock and a little more band and group oriented

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

June 28th 2008 18:56
Call of Duty 4 was released on November 7, 2008 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It's a new innovative war game that takes into the depths of war, and it's not pretty. The creators took great care in recreating WW2 weaponry and bringing it to life in the modern day.

Modern Warfare tells a continuous story, where you hop between the British S.A.S and the U.S. Marines. With each change, the storyline continues while still revolving around stolen Russion nukes and Mid-Eastern terroriests
