As I slightly touched on in "Get Your Last Glimpse of GH3 Before Guitar Hero 4 is Released," it's true a new Guitar Hero is supposed to be released in October of this year (2008). This is pretty surprising since they just released Guitar Hero 3 last October, but they do need something to compete with Rock Band, so the release isn't that surprising.

Last year, Guitar Hero 3 was released in October, and a few short months later, in December Rock Band was released, so you know Activision had to come up with something quick to compete with the high sales and popularity that Rock Band produced.

THE INSTRUMENTS

The Guitar
The new Guitar Hero has to introduce a cool, new guitar contoller. This one has more features such as the touch pad located on the neck. The touch sensitve strip allows you to alter the notes during sustains by sliding up and down the strip. It can also be used for tapping to play notes.

The back select button is made to look like the bridge of the guitar, and it's now easier to activate star power. The D-Pad now looks more like a knob. The overall body of the guitar is larger and more realistic.

The guitar is wireless and sleek, with an accelermeter and a custom faceplates.

The Drums
The drums are probably the biggest change, when comparing World Tour with Rock Band. Instead of 4 drum pads and a bass drum, you have 3 centered drum pads and 2 cymbals, which simulate 2 toms, 1 snare, 2 cymbals, and a bass drum. The cymbals are raised above the drum pads and are positioned on hinged swivels so that you can position them as you want. Each drum pad is 8 inches in diameter, so that you are more likely to hit them. Plus the whole set is wireless.

To activate star power, all you have to do is hit both cymbals at the same time... Pretty simple. Huh?

Another big difference between the two drum sets, is that the World Tour drum set is much quieter.

The Microphone
The microphone is pretty standard. It's wireless addition without any buttons. In order to get to the menus, you'll have to use the controller. In order to activate star power with the microphone, you don't have to wait for special sections; all you have to do is tap it or make a quick similar sound at any time in order to activate star power.

CUSTOMIZATION

World Tour brings back all of the characters from Guitar Hero 3 and a few from Guitar Hero 2, but what's the point in playing someone else when you can be a rockstar yourself. You can customize a character and watch yourself rock out on the screen.

The character customization lets you choose the sex of the character, the genre (goth, punk, rock, etc), age, body shape, and body build. You can get as detailed as the size of the jaw, chin, ears, mouth, and eyes. You can even adjust the shape of the eyebrows. Add makeup and choose your hairstyle and color. There are tons of options when you create your own character. This feature will definitely be a hit.

You can apply tattoos by piecing together shapes and icons so that you can make your own tattoo design. You can even take decals and customize your instruments.

THE GAME

So far the track list includes Linkin Park, Van Halen, Sublime - "Santeria", Billy Idol - "Rebel Yell", and the Foo Fighters - "Everlong," but Activision understands that a good track list is necessary for solid gameplay.

You will encounter boss battles as well as career mode and quick play action.

The tour mode is similar to Rock Band. You can tour various locations and play setlists.

MUSIC CREATOR

Another cool feature with Guitar Hero World Tour is the music creator. Although the game will include over 85 songs, Activision wanted to add something special and new to the game. You can create your own songs by laying out note track. All you have to do is play, and the game does the rest for you. But, if you want, you can get technical and go into the editor and play around manually.

Where the music creator is a sweet addition for the instruments- drums and guitar- you cannot create your own song with the vocals.

Even if you're just a beginner, you can quickly and easily create your own music and songs by using the wizard tool. You can select a premade base line and a drum loop, adjust the tempo, and the basics are there; all you have to do is customize the song. If you have problems with rhythm, you can lock your notes to the beat.

When you're finished creating your song, you can publish it to the GH tunes. At that point you can pick which tracks will be played by the different instruments, assign your own cover art customizing it with the decal editor, select a genre, and more. At that point, anyone can download and play your customized song. After they play the song for the first time, they'll be asked to rate it; at that point the ratings are sent to the servers and Activision will track which songs are the highest rated, the fastest chart movers, and the ones played the most.

You can save up to 100 songs that you've created yourself, and you can download up to 200 songs.

COST

If you're trying to figure out the costs, well they're not too high....

The guitar and the game
PS3 and Xbox 360: $99.99 and $59.99
PS2: $49.99 (game only)

The full bundle to include the guitar, drums, microphone, and the game
PS3, Xbox 360, Wii: $189.99

EA Sports: Nascar 09

June 18th 2008 15:10
Released in June 2008 in the U.S. Nascar 09 is probably the newest driving game created for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Now, although I'm not much of a racing fan, I love me some driving games. It's so different than sitting in your living room and watching however many cars race in a circle trying to win. All the drivers and cars blend together, and it can be hard to tell who's who and what's what, but when you're in the driver's seat, and you're the one in control, you get a whole new respect for racing. Granted, of course you're not in danger in your house racing in comparison to on the track, but you get the idea.

It's actually pretty hard to simulate the drama and excitement of real NASCAR into a video game, and Electronic Arts has struggled to do it, but personally, I think they've done a great job making fun and entertaining sports games. Yes, the cars tend to look the same and the characters are sort of blended together, but people love NASCAR as it's truly an American sport.

EA took the basics from NASCAR 08 and added a few new features that actually don't add too much to the game. It may sound like I'm downplaying a racing game, a style of gaming that I actually love, but one can must give you all that is encompassed in the game.

The one big difference between NASCAR 08 and NASCAR 09 is that Jeff Gordon helps you through the game, either encouraging you to sign with a new sponsor or consoling you when your team boots you for underperforming.

Once Gordon has you started, you're off to racing in the Nationwide,, Craftsman Truck or Sprint Cup series. You can play in the career mode where you start out in the beginning of the race season and build your reputation as you go along the way. Once you gain a good reputation, you'll open up sponsorship options and deals so that you can begin earning money. Although, there's no use for the money, the sponsorship deals really don't have a function in the game, but they add to the gameplay.

What you want to earn are the performance points, not necessarily the cash from your sponsor. Rack up the points by racing in the Sprint Driver Challenges, so that you can test your skills at pit entry, drafting, speed maintenance, hitting your racing line, and avoiding wrecks. There are 77 tests that you want t compete in.

The performance points can be separated into the speedway, superspeedway, short track, and road course, and within each of these categories there are areas for detailed upgrades. Although, the system is simple and bare-bones, it won't affect your individual vehicle, but your overall garage.

There are two basic difficulity levels- normal and pro- that allows you to tailor your racing experience. Pro mode lets you tweak your car controls, and normal mode lets locks the controls to a pre-set control. You get a more arcade simulation in normal mode than in pro mode.

My favorite aspect of NASCAR 09 is the paint shop that lets you custom your car in the in-game paint shop. You can make a new school design or an old school design, it's up to you how you want to custom your car. The actual paint shop is a very detailed and tedious aspect that a lot of gamers won't even use this feature. You have to download a template and import it into the professional image editing system in order to actually create your design. You may want to just download a third-party design from the EA website and downloading that to your console, but only the people you play online will be able to see it. To everyone else your car will just be a basic gray.

Other than image, NASCAR 09 includes a number of racing preferences. For example you can turn on either black flags which make racing in normal mode a tad difficult, yellow flags that turn caution on, or no caution flags at all.

If you barely tap the bumper of the care in front of you, you'll get black flagged, meaning you'll have to roll slowly through the pit while the race continues without you. This is something that you can't skip.

NASCAR 09 doesn't have all the details that make for a great racing game. I mean the crashes are basic and nothing spectacular. For most racing games the crashes and collisions are the excitement point, so this sort of makes the game drag a bit, but hey if that's not your thing and you really just want to race, then by all means go for it.

When you're in third person view, the driver's hands don't move on the steering wheel. There are also a few perspective problems when in third person view, as well.

If single player mode is a little dull, try playing with a friend, as multiplayer mode (online only) eases the dullness. You can choose tracks, damage, flag rules, and more. Basically, you get to customize the race and all of it's specifications.

For the most part, NASCAR 09 is not the game for hardcore race gamers, but it can serve as entertaining on some level. There's just nothing special about this particular game that struck my fancy. Sorry to those who were interested in the game. I will admit, though, it is worth a first try, but I'd suggest renting the game before you buy it, just so that you're not out $50.

Guitar Hero 3 was released in October 2007. Japan, actually did not recieve the game until 2008; the month of the release depends on what version that was being released.

Yes believe it or not, according to the Official Guitar Hero website, they are releasing Guitar Hero 4: World Tour on October 27, 2008.

As for Guitar Hero 3, I doubt that the popularity of the game will decrease. If anything, it may even gain more gamers, as with the release of an "upgrade," so to speak, the price of the older version will be reduced, even slightly. Many people will purcahse GH3 at the new lower price; just make sure that you grab the game a few weeks before the release of GH4, as the closer to the release date, the higher the price of Guiter Hero 3 will increase.

Check out GH3 on expert.

As for cheats for the Wii version of GH3, check out this.

And for more information about Guitar Hero World Tour, keep tuned in, as the more info released, the more I will post about it. Right now, the game seems to be similar to Rock band with the guitar, drums, and microphone.

How much will Guitar Hero 4 cost?
Simple, if you purchase just just the guitar and the game, you'll pay about $99.99 and $59.99 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, and and $49.99 for the PS2 and Wii version. But if you want to purchase the bundle, you'll pay about $189.99 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii bundles, and for the bundle that includes the guitar, drums and a microphone, you'll pay about $189.99, but $179.99 for the PS2 version.

LEGO Indiana Jones

June 8th 2008 20:07
Released in the US on June 3rd, LEGO Indiana Jones has been a big hit in the gaming population. THe game is a great game for kids of all ages, but that doesn't mean that the game is just for kids. Anyone can find enjoyment out of playing LEGO Indiana Jones.

You can find the game in all sorts of game consoles, including Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, PSP , DS, and PC.

If you've played LEGO Star Wars, then you'll love the Indiana Jones version, as it's basically the same deal, except this time, there are more adventures this time. LucasArt put a lot more emphasis on solving puzzles and collecting keys that unlock the next area.

The LEGO Indiana Jones video game runs throught the first three Indiana Jones movies pretty close. There are a few segments where the storyline have been tweaked to better fit the title, but for the most part the game is going to be very similar to the movies, although there is a larger separationg between the video game and the movies in comparison to the LEGO Star Wars games.

With the Wii version of the video game, you'll use motion controls for the majority of the game, and with what isn't fully motion control, you can still get away with using the Wii remote. IE when you shake the remote, you swing Indy's remote, but you may be better off using the Z button to have Indy throw a few punches.

When playing through the storyline, you'll want to collect all the items that you can in order to help you solve all the puzzles. Make sure to dig up all the treasure that you can, so find the nearest shovel and decode the hieroglyphs. There are areas where you won't find treasure, so you just have to make sure to come back in Free Play to unlock more goodies.

LucasArt has thrown a few twists along the way. For example, Indy is scared of snakes and Willy is afraid of spiders, so when near them, you're going to have to change characters.

Play in Co-Op mode, Traveller's Tales, Free Play, and online LIVE play. Just make sure to check out all the cheats for LEGO Indiana Jones, as well as all the Xbox achievements for Indiana Jones.

I would definitely suggest renting and trying out LEGO Indiana Jones, espcially if you don't want to purchase it right off hte bat, but I think this is a great purchase for any gamer, especially those who were fans of LEGO Star Wars.

Rock Band

June 5th 2008 15:12
Rock Band is a fun interactive game that has been formulated for multiplaye use while playing lead guitar, bass guitar, drums, and vocals. You can currently find Rock Band for Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3. There has not been a released date set for Rock Band on Wii, but there has been talk about it.

You can play on Solo Mode, World Tour Mode, Solo Tour, Solo Quickplay, Tug of War, Score Duel, and a few other various modes.

When you get bored playing solo or with a friend, go LIVE.

Although Rock Band was released in 2007, it's still a huge hit among gamers.

The one thing you should worry about is the foot peddle of the drum kit, but you can easily correct that by purchasing the foot peddle kit on ebay.

There has also been complications with the Gibson Les Paul guitar controller bundled with the PlayStation 3 not working with PlayStation 3 version of the game. But, Harmonix has released a patch for the issue.

If you still have any problems with the controllers with the game, you can contact Harmonix, and return your broken controller for a new one.

You can check out cheats for Rock Band on Xbox HERE. There are cheats to unlock all songs, unock instruments, and tons of achievements.
