How to Buy Wii Points

January 1st 2009 11:06

So, you need 500 Wii points in order to get access to the Internet Channel, to begin with, but once you're in the Internet Channel, you need more Wii Points in order to download the features and any WiiWare games that you want. There are essentially two different ways to purchase Wii Points so that you can get these downloads, and below, you'll find the instructions for purchasing Wii Points viat the Wii Shop Channel and redeeming a Wii Point Card.

Purchase Wii Points through the Wii Shop Channel
You can use your Wii console and purchase your Wii points via the Wii Shop Channel. You'll need to have your Visa or Mastercard ready. (The Wii Shop Channel is on a secure server, so your information will be safe.)
  • Access the Wii Shop Channel throught the console menu; if this is your first time accessing the channel, you will need to agree to the User Agreement, and then click 'Okay' after reading the description.
  • Select 'Start Shopping' once you are at the Welcome screen in the Shop Channel.
  • Click the 'Add Wii Points'
  • Select 'Buy Wii Points with a Credit Card'
  • Now, select how many Wii Points you want to purchase. There is a maximum number of Points that you can have on the console, so be aware of that.
  • Select your credit card typ- Visa or Mastercard.
  • Enter in the information that is asked- the credit card number, expiration date, and security code. Then select 'Ok' when you have everything entered.
  • Now, enter the next set of information- city, state, zip, and county, and select 'okay.' Make sure not to include any punctuation into the street, city, or country fields (St. is bad, you want to just have St)
  • Review your purchase on the confirmation screen and if everything is accurate, click 'yes.'
  • After the purchase is processed, a confirmation screen will appear indicating that you purchased Wii Points and that they have been added to your Wii Shop account.

Purchase a Wii Points Card at a Retailer
There are participating retail stores that sell Nintendo products and Wii Point cards. Basically, all you have to do is pick the amount of Wii Points that you want and you just purchase the card with the retailer. In order to redeem a Wii Point Card, follow the following steps.
  • Select 'Redeem Wii Points Card'
  • Now, on the back of your Wii Points Card, scratch off the silver area on the back of the card, in order to reveal your activation number
  • Enter the activation code on the screen and click 'ok' in order to continue
  • Select 'Redeem' in order to redeem the card
  • Once the process is completed, a confirmation screen will appear indicating that you purchased Wii Points and that they have been added to your Wii Shop account.

For the most part, you will find that it's $1.00 USD per every 100 Wii Point. You can purchase 2,000 points for $20 in the USA, €20 in Europe, £14.99 in the UK, and AU$35 in Australia. At participating retail stores, you will usually be able to find 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, and 5,000 Wii Point cards.

    Wii Internet Channel

    December 31st 2008 15:46
When compared to the xBox 360 and PlayStation 3, the Wii's internet channel is just not quite as advanced as it could be. In time, I only hope that we will be able to play with gamers in other cities, states, and countries. I mean, I can kick some major butt playing the computer at Tennis with the Wii Sports pack, I only wish that I could play someone other than the computer and people in my house. You know, spice it up a bit...

But, with the current Wii internet channel, it's well... Blah...

First off, you need 500 Wii Points in order to actually download the Wii Internet Channel, which is fine and only makes sense. But, it's just so frustrating.

    Downloading the Wii Internet Channel
  • I mean, you have to connect to your broadband internet connection and download the Opera Browser by pulling up the Wii Shop Channel from the Wii Menu.
  • If you haven't pulled it up before, you'll have to agree to the User Agreement first.
  • Once, the welcome screen comes up, you want to select 'Start Shopping,' and then select the 'Wii Channels' from the Wii Shop main menu.
  • Next, you have to select the 'Internet channel,' select 'yes' to agree and confirm the download.
  • At this point you finally have the Opera Browser, and the 'Internet Channel' will appear on you Wii Menu.

So, all that accomplished, and now you can surf the web on your Wii.

The Internet Channel allows you to redeem your Wii Points for downloads and WiiWare games. That's about it... I mean, you see it's a start, but it's a small baby step to hopefully being able to play with others on the Wii Internet Channel

    Xbox Automatic Shut Down Feature

    November 26th 2008 02:21
Because sometimes heavy gamers will play at all hours of the night, it can be hard to remember to brush your teeth at 4 in the morning, much less turn off your Xbox. This is why there is an auto shut off feature that you can enable so that you aren't using loads of extra power that you don't have to use while you're not even playing your games. The auto shut-off feature will turn off your xBox after 6 hours of idle time, which gives you plenty of time to resume playing after a quick nap, but for longer periods away from your xbox, you'll save power with the auto shut-off feature enabled.

For instructions on how to enable the automatic shut down feature, you'll want to check out Set up Auto Shut-Off for xBox 360

In a way, I can see it... I mean teens play driving games and action video games more often than strategy and role-playing games. It only makes sense that driving can affect how teens drive in the real world
