Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

June 28th 2008 18:56
Call of Duty 4 was released on November 7, 2008 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It's a new innovative war game that takes into the depths of war, and it's not pretty. The creators took great care in recreating WW2 weaponry and bringing it to life in the modern day.

Modern Warfare tells a continuous story, where you hop between the British S.A.S and the U.S. Marines. With each change, the storyline continues while still revolving around stolen Russion nukes and Mid-Eastern terroriests.

There are tons of enemies in COD4 that are all resourceful and merciless. If you don't take care of them, they'll do you in.

Throughout most of the game, you'll be making your way through a series of short levels.

The single player mode is great, and the co-op mode is one on its own. The main concern with co-op mode is that enemy fire and your own are sometimes the same color., which can get frustrating after a while.

In general, the list of complaints are short when compared to the overall length of the game. If you're a persistent gamer, you can probably complete the game in about 5 to 6 hours if playing the game on regular difficulty, but as you move towards Veteran, the game can take about 8 to 9 hours to complete.

Overall, Call of Duty 4 is a great game with an intense storyline. Where single player mode is a nice mode, multiplayer will keep you entertained for hours.

Bioshock

June 25th 2008 00:22

Bioshock was released in Augusts of 2007 for Xbox 360 and PC. The game should be released for the PlayStation 3 console in October 2008.

Although Bioshock is an older game in terms of how games come in and out of popularity, it's still a very fun and entertaining first person shooter game. It's broken into several large segments that are separated by logically placed load times, so it's not so bad.

Bioshock is definitely the game to play. If you're playing the PC version, you'll want to check out the patches, as they'll help you out with the kinks.

Kane and Lynch Review and Trailer

June 16th 2008 15:14
Kane and Lynch: Dead Men is named after the two main characters- Kane and Lynch- who you will find on death row in the beginning of the game. Together the unlikely team must survive together and make a few killings along the way.

The amount of violence pulled in the Kane and Lynch video game is top-notch when compared to other action games on the market. The curse words just fly out of their mouths, and the motivations behind the characters are enough to make anyone feel for them.

The game includes traditional cut scenes and game-play, but the storyline never ends. The two characters argue and interact between each other, throughout the game, which reveals the plot and makes the game more cinematic.

Although, the plot is well constructed, the game doesn't play as smoothly. The game lacks focus and needs to be polished ever so slightly.

Kane and Lynch is a third-person shooter game, yet players get the option to play with their own style. You can either play individually or as a group. The characters will even act on their own, so you can ignore them if you don't have the man-power to handle them.

Once you get started, the game breaks down quickly.

The cover system is unwieldy at times and pretty much useless at others. Without a good cover system, the game is pretty generic.

Kane

Without the few hard and frustrating scenes, Dead Men could be finished in one day. Some of the scenes are irritating, and most many gamers just give up and move on, but these sections can be genuinely fun.

Although the storyline and presentation of the game is great, the development of the game is lacking, in terms of gameplay and graphics. The graphics are pretty basic, in terms of today's standard of realistic explosions.

The online mode is unique and actually pretty fun, especially with a group of friends. You can play with 4 to 6 players, while you collect all the money and valuables as you can will staying alive. The catch is that you have to split all your goods with your team-mates. If you kill them, you get all the goods to yourself, but anyone that dies is respawned on the opposite team. If they then come back on the other side, you can collect all the goods from your former team-mates that you've killed and are given a bonus if you take revenge on anyone who betrays you.

The Fragile Alliance mode, the online gameplay, is probably the best addition to the game.

Released in the U.S. on June 5th, DBZ can be found for PS3 and Xbox 360. Definitely check out the trailer before you purchase the game. I mean it's an okay game, but it's basically fan-based, in regards to the storyline and presentation of the game. There's nothing big and exciting about how the game is played out. For the most part, if you know the bigger story covered in the Dragon Ball Z sagas, then this is just a a series of fights, lacking anything special.

You'll see a good assortment of characters and battles; the battles and combat being probably the best aspect of the game.

If you're not a regular DBZ fan, then you're probably going to be pretty confused as to what's going with the characters and the storyline.

Although, it's a large part in just about all games to almost all gamers, in Burst Limit, the storyline isn't the main focus of the game, which in this case may possible be a benefit to the game, as the combat can be rewarding. There are several simple attacks and moves that you can try out against enemies such as basic blocks, jumps, and Ki powers.

There are also a number of advanced moves that allow you to master the game's mechanics and dynamics. IE black and dodge against an attack correctly, and you can teleport behind your opponent and hit them from behind.

Make sure that you carefully watch and manage your Ki Gauge, as it can offer a number of strategy tips. Also, when fully charged, you can use your Ki to perform special blocks that can protect you from most other attacks.

Another good aspect of the game is the counter-attack system that allows one character who attacks another with a matching attack to get their hit in, catering towards strategy and timing.

You'll also encounter Drama Pieces that give each character a little more personality as well as have an effect on what happens in the game.

For the most part the game is ok, and personally that's about it. The variety is pretty slim to none, but the combat and character attacks make the game more interesting. The game would probably rate much higher, if only it had more stages and levels and more varied characters. Yes, there is a large list, but after you've played the game a bit, the characters all seem to be the same.
